Usability Engineer

The Usability Engineer will be responsible for creating innovative and high quality User Interface Designs. The desired candidate must have a solid Human Factors background and have proven experience with the following core responsibilities of the position.

  • Research latest trends in Web 2.0 and Flash/Flex technology to keep abreast of new user experiences
  • Write and create relevant documentation including user flows, graphs, site maps, user cases and functional requirements
  • Translate findings from usability research and customer feedback into user centric designs
  • Help define and maintain information architecture
  • Create, implement and enforce the style guide and information architecture for the overall GUI
  • Translate product requirements into usable assets for the development team
  • Work closely with engineers and product managers throughout all stages of the product cycle
  • Plan and execute usability studies, competitive reviews, focus groups, heuristic reviews, usability tests, and surveys
  • Construct conceptual prototypes utilizing interface design standards and best practices Documents user interface specifications, definition of usability requirements and navigational maps

Skills and Experience:

  • BS/BA: Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors/Ergonomics, Computer Science, or Graphic Design or a related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of user experience and/or product development work
  • Strong knowledge of software design and usability methodologies including user task analysis, user conceptual modeling, interaction design and usability testing
  • Software usability evaluations and focus group facilitation
  • Mastery of Visio or equivalent wire framing application
  • Mastery of Photoshop or equivalent for image creation
  • Experience in conducting usability studies and translating the findings into actionable recommendations
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Experience working within a user-centered design process
  • Thorough understanding of web technologies and trends, usability techniques, and best of breed interface solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in designing usable web-based interfaces
  • Demonstrated experience developing user profiles and personas, user scenarios, navigation flow charts, storyboards, wireframes, mockups and user interface specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment
